They got these codes, numbers you gotta punch in. Where do you find ‘em? Well, they’re supposed to be in a little book that came with the remote. If you lost that, like I usually do, you might have to go online or call them folks who made the remote. Locate the Brand Code(s) from the list provided with your remote. Good luck with that, I say. Sometimes those young’uns talk too fast on the phone.
Alright, so let’s say you found the codes. Now what? Well, you gotta press some buttons on the remote. They got a button for the TV, and a button for the cable box. Press and release the button for the device you want to program. You gotta press the right one, or it ain’t gonna work. It’s like tryin’ to open the wrong door with the wrong key.
Then there’s this “MAGIC” button. Don’t ask me why they call it that, seems like plain old button to me. You gotta hold that one down till a little light starts blinkin’. Press and hold the MAGIC button until the LED blinks. Then you start punchin’ in them codes. It’s like a secret code, ya know? Like somethin’ out of a spy movie.

- Step 2: Press the device button (TV or CABLE).
- Step 3: Hold down the MAGIC button until the light blinks.
- Step 4: Punch in the code.
- Step 5: Cross your fingers and hope it works.
Now, sometimes it works, sometimes it don’t. If it don’t, you gotta try again. Or try a different code. It’s a pain, I know. But eventually, you’ll get it. And when you do, you’ll feel like you won the lottery. Or you can try yelling at it, sometimes that works too. Just kiddin’, don’t do that.
There’s other buttons too, for the volume, the channels, the menu. CABLE POWER Turns cable box ON/OFF. MENU Displays main cable MENU. INFO Displays INFO for … cable menus. CH Used to tune channel up or down. LAST Return to last channel. The “MENU” button is useful, lets you see what’s on. And the “CH” buttons, those are for changin’ the channels. Up and down, like a see-saw.
And if you get really stuck, there’s always the “OK” button. Aim the remote at your equipment and press and hold down the OK key. That one usually does somethin’. Or you can ask one of them young’uns for help. They seem to know all about this stuff. But good luck finding one that ain’t glued to their phone.
Oh, and if you got one of them newfangled cable boxes, the ones that need “pairin’”, well, that’s a whole ‘nother story. Put STB or adapter to enter pairing mode. Step 1: Press and hold SETUP until the LED blinks twice. Step 2: Press the MENU key on the remote and the remote will begin blinking as it attempts to pair. It’s like dancin’, the remote and the box gotta be in sync. I ain’t even gonna try to explain that one. You’re on your own there.
So that’s it, that’s how you program this here URC 2060 remote to your cable box and TV. It ain’t rocket science, but it ain’t easy neither. Just take your time, follow the instructions, and don’t lose that little book with the codes. And if all else fails, well, there’s always the on/off button on the TV itself. That’s what I usually end up doin’ anyway.
