Alright, listen up, y’all. We got a problem with this here 2002 VW Golf. It’s crankin’ and crankin’ but ain’t startin’ for nothin’. Darn thing’s stubborn as a mule!
So, this fella comes to me, all flustered. Says his Golf just won’t kick over. He filled her up with diesel, he says, and then poof – nothin’. Just a whole lotta crankin’. Sounds like a whole lotta nothin’ to me if ya ask me.

Now, I ain’t no fancy mechanic, but I know a thing or two about cars. First thing I always check is the simple stuff. Did ya check the gas, mister? I mean, is there actually any diesel in that there tank? Sounds silly, but you’d be surprised how often that’s the problem. People forget the dumbest things, I tell ya.
- Fuel stuff: Maybe the fuel pump’s gone kaput. That little fella’s gotta pump the diesel to the engine, see? If it ain’t pumpin’, you ain’t goin’ nowhere. Or maybe there’s a clog somewhere. Critters get into everything these days.
- Sparky stuff: Then there’s the spark plugs. They gotta make the fire to get things goin’. If they ain’t sparkin’, nothin’s gonna happen. Could be them little coils too. They’re like the spark plugs’ helpers.
- Electrical what-cha-ma-call-its: Fuses, wires… all that mumbo jumbo. A blown fuse can stop the whole shebang. And wires? Well, critters like to chew on ’em, or they just get old and break.
Now, if it’s crankin’ but not startin’, it ain’t the battery. Battery’s just for gettin’ things turnin’ at the start. If it’s crankin’, the battery’s doin’ its job. The fella said somethin’ about clicking. If it’s just clickin’ and not crankin’ then that’s a whole ‘nother story. Probably the battery then or maybe that cranky shaft thingy. That sensor thing, the one that tells the engine when to spark and squirt the fuel. If that ain’t workin’, you’re just spinnin’ your wheels, literally.
One time, my old pickup did somethin’ similar. Turned out to be a darned squirrel had built a nest right on top of the engine. Chewed through a bunch of wires. Cost me a pretty penny to fix that mess. Those squirrels are nothin’ but trouble I tell ya.
So, how do we figure out what’s wrong with this here Golf? Well, we gotta start pokin’ around. Check the fuel pump, see if it’s hummin’ like it should. Check the spark plugs, see if they’re all gunked up or burnt out. Look for any chewed wires or blown fuses. You gotta be like a detective, sniffin’ out the clues.

And if you can’t figure it out yourself, well, then you gotta take it to someone who knows more than you. Nothin’ wrong with that. Even the smartest folks need help sometimes. Just make sure they don’t try to rip you off. There’s a lot of them shady mechanics out there, always lookin’ to make a quick buck.
But before you go spendin’ all your hard-earned money, do your homework. Check online, see if other folks have had the same problem. Sometimes you can find the answer yourself, save yourself a whole lotta trouble and cash. The internet, it’s got all sorts of things on it, some good some bad, mind you.
Anyways, that’s my two cents on this here 2002 VW Golf problem. It could be a bunch of things, but if you’re patient and persistent, you’ll figure it out eventually. And if you can’t, well, find yourself a good, honest mechanic who can. Just don’t let ’em take you for a ride, ya hear?
