Okay, so, yesterday I went out to play a round at the La Purisima Golf Course. I’d heard a lot about it – some good, some not so good – but I figured I’d give it a shot and see for myself.
First off, getting there was a bit of a drive. It’s kind of out in the middle of nowhere, but that’s part of the charm, I guess. You definitely feel like you’re getting away from it all. I pulled into the parking lot, grabbed my clubs, and headed to the pro shop to check in. The guy at the counter was friendly enough, and I got paired up with a couple of other guys who seemed pretty chill.

We teed off on the first hole, and right away I could tell this course was gonna be a challenge. The fairways are pretty narrow, and there are a lot of trees and hills to deal with. It’s not one of those courses where you can just grip it and rip it. You’ve gotta think your way around, you know?
I started off okay, made a couple of pars, but then things got a little dicey. I ended up in the rough a few times, and let me tell you, it’s thick. I probably lost a few balls in there. But hey, that’s golf, right?
The Scenery
- Beautiful: The views from some of the holes are really something else. You’re up high, overlooking these rolling hills, and it’s just gorgeous.
- Peaceful: Since it’s so far from any city, it’s super quiet out there. All you hear are the birds and the wind. It’s really relaxing, even when you’re slicing your drive into the trees.
I kept plugging away, trying to keep my score respectable. My short game was actually pretty decent, which is always a plus. I made a few nice putts, and that helped me save a few strokes.
By the time we got to the back nine, I was starting to get a little tired. It’s a tough walk, especially with all the hills. But I pushed through and finished the round.

Overall, I’d say La Purisima is a tough but rewarding course. It’s definitely not for beginners, but if you’re up for a challenge, it’s worth checking out. Just bring plenty of balls, and be prepared to work for your score.
Would I go back?
- Maybe: It’s a bit of a drive, and it’s not exactly cheap.
- Worth it once: I’m glad I played it, but I’m not sure I’d make it a regular thing.
After the round, we grabbed a beer at the clubhouse and chatted about the game. It was a good day, even if my score wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for. That’s golf, I guess. You win some, you lose some. But you always have fun, right?
