You know what? That Western Colorado football, they are something else. Heard they got some good boys playing this year. They run and they tackle, just like we used to do when we were young, but now they wear all that fancy gear. Makes my head spin, all them helmets and pads.
This Western Colorado, they are part of something called the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Sounds important, don’t it? Been around a long time, too. Like, almost a hundred years. That’s older than dirt! They must have some stories to tell, them Western Colorado football folks. Some good players on that team, make no mistake.
They play that football, all right. Saw some of ’em on the TV the other day. Big strong boys, running all over the field. They got about 350 of them young’uns playing all kinds of sports out there in Western Colorado. That’s a lot of sweat and hard work, I tell ya.

The team, they call them the Mountaineers. Makes sense, living out there in Colorado, with all them mountains. I reckon they climb up them mountains when they ain’t playing Western Colorado football. Good exercise, that’s for sure. My knees could never!
One time, heard they played a game and never once was behind the whole time. They won that one, you can bet your bottom dollar. That’s how you play football, I always say. Stay ahead, and don’t look back. They’re good, that Western Colorado football team.
They got all kinds of players on that team. Some run with the ball, some throw it, some just try to knock the other fellas down. It’s a rough game, football. But them boys, they seem to like it. They got a whole bunch of people who help ’em out, too. Coaches and trainers, and who knows what else. It’s a big operation, that Western Colorado football.
They got a list, some place called ESPN. Never heard of it, but they say it’s got all the names of them football players. Every last one of ’em. If you want to know who’s playing for Western Colorado football, that’s where you go look, I suppose. They say you can find it all right there in that list.
They even got special players, these “First Team All-RMAC” ones. Must be the best of the best, I reckon. Like the cream of the crop. If you’re on that list, you’re doing something right. They’re probably the ones who score all the points and make all the big plays. The stars of that Western Colorado football team.
This year, they got a new team. 2023, they call it. A whole new batch of boys ready to play some football. Fresh faces, eager to prove themselves. It’ll be interesting to see how they do. Hope they win a lot of games, that Western Colorado football team.
They even got some from 2021 still around, playing that football. That’s a while back. They must really like it, to stick around that long. It’s hard work, playing football. Takes a lot out of you. But them boys in Western Colorado football, they keep coming back for more.
Out there in Gunnison, that’s where they play. Heard it’s a nice place. Lots of mountains, like I said. Good place to play football, I suppose. Fresh air, wide open spaces. Better than being cooped up inside, that’s for sure. That Western Colorado football team, they got it good out there.
So, yeah, that Western Colorado football, they’re a big deal out there. Lots of folks follow ’em, root for ’em. They’re like the home team, you know? The pride of the town. And they’re good, too. That always helps. People like a winner. And that Western Colorado football team, they win a lot. They’re something to watch, that’s for sure.
If you are ever out that way, be sure you see the Mountaineers play. I hear it is a sight to see. These boys and their Western Colorado football, they sure are somethin’. I just hope they don’t get hurt. Football is a rough game. Them boys is tough, though.
Well, that is about all I know about that football team. These Mountaineers and their Western Colorado football, good luck to them, I say. I reckon I will try to watch them on the TV again sometime. Maybe I will understand it better then. These old eyes ain’t what they used to be.
